Idioms

Chinese idioms, or 成语 (chéngyǔ), are an important part of the Chinese language and culture. Most idioms consist of four characters and often come from ancient history, myths, or classical literature. They carry deep meanings that go beyond the literal words.

For example, “画蛇添足” means “to draw legs on a snake,” describing someone who ruins something by unnecessary actions. Idioms make Chinese expression more vivid and concise. Learning them helps students understand cultural stories and improve reading comprehension. In daily communication and writing, idioms are widely used to express wisdom, morals, and emotions in a powerful and memorable way.
